Are You a Manuscript Killer?
Class takes place: January 30th-February 12th, 2012
Cost: $5 BDRWA members/ $20 non-members
Are You a Manuscript Killer?
Instructor: Sonya Weiss
CLASS INFO:
The simple definition for advertising is to make people aware of a product or service by getting their attention. But advertising doesn’t stop there. Good advertising makes the consumer aware of their need and how the product can meet that need.
Like advertising, you want your writing to get attention but writing fiction is about more than simply writing a good story. What’s most important to those in the business of selling books is marketability. If your story doesn’t have mass appeal it’s given the label of ‘limited marketability’ and usually rejected.
Many writers kill their manuscript in the first three pages (which is why many agents/editors’ guidelines say to only send them limited pages) and by the end of the first chapter, an agent or editor knows which manuscript came in DOA.
Regardless of what genre you write in, this workshop will teach you how applying the techniques used in writing ad copy can get the attention of agents and editors and give your manuscript market appeal.
Class lessons:
1. Understanding how to write like a copywriter to get attention
2. The weapons used to kill your manuscript
3. What's your motive?
4. Accomplices
5. Trial by jury
6. The verdict
7. Doing time
