Juanita Salicrup

Born: Mount Vernon, New York, sometime in the Cretaceous Age.

Attended Hunter College and the City of University of New York, with extra coursework at New York University and the New School.  Hold both a Bachelor's Degree in Literature, History and Humanities;  and a Master's Degree in Medieval Studies.

Started writing at 9 years of age, with a Nancy Drew-type mystery.  First novel a 150-page full-length western adventure written at age 11. Several many short stories, novellas and novels -- mysteries, adventures, romances -- thereafter during teens and twenties, none published -- a blessing for the world of readers out there, I am quite certain.

Many years later, wrote and had pubished a couple of dozen fantasy and science fiction stories and novellas in small press magazines.

Joined RWA in the '80's.  Was a member of what is now the Metro NYC chapter of RWA.  Kept writing my sci-fi and fantasy with romance, with the wish and hope of, rather than any coherent plan for, publication.

"Real" life career was a combo of operations and pubic relations management work with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.  There I had the distinguishing experience of living through the first World Trade Center bombing in February 1993.

Fast forward to ten years ago:  after retirement from my PANYNJ career, moved from New York to San Francisco, became a member of San Francisco Area RWA in 1998.  Joined Black Diamonds RWA during its charter year, and have never been happier in a group!

Entered and won second place in the Futuristic category of the FF&P "On the Far Side" contest in 1999.  Entered a number of contests since then, winning none (I think my stuff is more sci-fi than romance for most people's liking), and have now judged in seven contests for various RWA chapters, including both SFA-RWA and the Black Diamonds.

Currently working on a sci-fi/futuristic trilogy (titled "The Dream Dancer Chronicles." part of a series, and have another series of books, this time urban fantasy ("The Veil's Gate Chronicles") in the hopper.

Writers I most admire: Elizabeth George, Jeffrey Deaver, Mercedes Lackey and J.K. Rowling, all for their various prodigious strengths.

Favorite colors: magenta/lavender and turquoise.  Characterize myself as a voracious reader and semi-constant student.  Taking current course in "Imaginative Literature."  Love the good coffee, bread, wine, cheeses and chocolate that are characteristic of my adopted city.  (After all, aren't these the major food groups????)  Also love hanging out with the fun and very literate ladies in the Diamonds and San Francisco.
